HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Aviagen® Australia team has a longstanding tradition of giving back to families and individuals in need, and the company has appointed a dedicated Charities and Donations committee to seek and support worthwhile opportunities.
To demonstrate commitment to the youth in local Australian communities -- who could potentially become future poultry professionals -- the committee recently contributed monetary donations to two local schools and one community center. Additionally, poultry experts from the Australia team talked to the students about the fulfilling work that takes place at Aviagen Australia farms and hatcheries. Fortunately, lifting of COVID restrictions in Australia enable Aviagen representatives to present the gifts in person. Their inspiring stories and pictures are listed below.
“A core value our staff is to contribute to our local community, and we feel privileged to be able to do so,” shared Michael Leahy, Managing Director of Aviagen Australia. “The Tirranna and Tarago Public Schools and the Wellington Information and Neighborhood Services Community Centre (WINS) do an amazing job, providing quality education and assistance in the rural area where we operate.”
Tirranna Public School
On Oct 13, the committee presented a check of $500 to the Tirranna Public School.
Kathy Staples from the school commented, “Thank you to you and the team from Aviagen for spending time with us yesterday at Tirranna and bringing your very large $500 donation cheque along for photos. It was interesting hearing about the chicken farm and hatchery process that all happens just down the road. It created lots of conversations with the children about the industry. We are in the process of improving the front of our school with some landscaping and purchasing a small garden shed to store tools for our vegetable garden, and plan to use your donation to assist us with this overall project.”
On Oct. 15, the WINS was the beneficiary of a $1,000 donation. Helen Swan, CEO of WINS, remarked: “WINS Community Centre is thrilled to be the recipient of a generous donation from Aviagen this month. We’ve been open all through the pandemic and we have been very busy seeing a lot of people in need, and have seen a marked reduction in our income stream. As restrictions ease, we have begun to get out to our community again. With this grant we are looking to engage with young parents. Much appreciated Aviagen.”
Tarago Public School
On Oct. 20, the team contributed $500 to the Tarago Public School. Tarago Public School wrote in their School newsletter “On Tuesday 20th October Michael and Sharon from Aviagen visited our school and presented us with a cheque for $500. This donation will go toward sport equipment to enhance our sporting activities. Thank you, Aviagen, for supporting Tarago Public School.”
